Army Command and General Staff College (ECEME)

The Army Command and General Staff College (ECEME) is a military higher education institution focused on the training and advanced development of Brazilian Army officers, with an emphasis on capacity building in strategic planning, leadership, and national defence. Recognised for its role in knowledge production within Strategic Studies, Security, and Defence, ECEME maintains partnerships with various universities and research centres, promoting cooperation between academia and the Armed Forces. In addition to its role in training officers, the institution hosts the Postgraduate Programme in Military Sciences (PPGCM/ECEME), establishing itself as a centre of excellence in research on National Defence, International Cooperation, and Military Strategy.

The participation of PPGCM/ECEME solidifies the cooperation between civil and military institutions, focusing on the implementation of teaching and scientific and technological research projects geared towards National Defence. The relationship between PPGCM and PPGRI/UFSM was established upon the latter's inauguration in 2019, and has since contributed to the joint organisation of research activities and scientific events.

The PPGCM/ECEME is the leading training centre for Master's and PhD graduates within the scope of the Brazilian Armed Forces, and a benchmark for research and education in Strategic Studies on National Defence—the central pillar of this research project. Furthermore, it brings together researchers specialised in Security and Defence themes in the African continent, as well as in Brazilian engagement through international technical cooperation, defence diplomacy, and peacekeeping missions.
