Our project is dedicated to analysing the complex security and defence dynamics on the African continent and their implications for Brazil.
General Objective
To understand the primary security and defence dynamics, partnerships, and policies on the African continent, evaluating their impacts on the Brazilian Strategic Surroundings and identifying alternatives for Brazil's strategic engagement.
Specific Objectives
To achieve our general objective, we focus on the following goals:
- Analyse Geopolitics: To understand the structural changes in international geopolitics and evaluate new axes of strategic partnerships between African countries and extra-regional powers (both traditional and emerging) in security and defence.
- Systematise Regional Dynamics: To study and systematise the configuration of regional security dynamics in contemporary Africa, addressing the domestic, regional, inter-regional, and global levels.
- Map Defence Policies: To map and evaluate the contemporary security and defence policies of African regional powers, with particular attention to the countries of Atlantic Africa.
- Prospect Scenarios for Brazil: To prospect and analyse relevant scenarios for Brazilian engagement within its Strategic Surroundings, focusing on security and defence diplomacy, technical cooperation, and peacekeeping missions.
